The less you know

The more that you learn

The less you know

People grow concerned

Like Pinocchio’s nose

Falsity is believed

By conduit of media

Minds malicious; mislead

Fear amplified by tedium

They turn us into drones

While we fly their flags

Social media, iPhones

Distracting hashtags

It’s a sad situation

Absurd and obscene

For a blinded generation

Watching television screens.

For my Mum

From Bentinck Court

To Bramley Road

You gave support

And love bestowed

From Infants at Standhill

To Uni at Goldsmiths

You lent a hand still

My bowed head, lift

When times were tough

You had my back

When seas were rough

You steadied the mast

I love you Mum

And I wish to say

To end, in sum

Happy Mother’s Day

Keep Afloat

Down the stream

There is a boat

The bow it gleams

A shimmering coat

Sublime supreme

Keeps you afloat.

The boat is hope

Onboard is freedom

You pull the rope

To sail to see some

Sea foamed soap

And smiles to greet them.

When you reach

Your destination

The mind of each

Shipshape creation

Will wisdom teach

True divination.

Pulling teeth for pure relief

The Mockingbird calls the shots

While politicking puerile plots

The blood it coagulates and clots

And History memory forgot.

Tears pour down Sorrow’s cheek

Hope cries out bruised and bleak

A universal losing streak

Would you want this Earth if you were meek?

The sense of loss from Zeitgeist’s grief

Innocents incur broke belief

Future frowns at Tomorrow’s thief

While pulling teeth for pure relief.

When it flashes there before you…

In a world of fear and anguish

In a time of hate and loss

When you’re weary, worn and languid

When you’re nailed to your cross

Remember those that love you

Remember those that care

Remember those above you

And remember who was there

For this life is never promised

And there is no second go

Do your best to be honest

And cherish every second, slow

‘Cause when it flashes there before you

You’ll want to reminisce

On the moments life adorned you

With what love truly is.

Neigh-sayings

“Much ado about bluffing.”

For aspiring Shakespearean actor

“A face you wouldn’t tire of punching.”

For a boxer a moot point and factor

“You’re only as young as you feel.”

Must have aged poor Christopher Reeve

Magician moonlighting in kitten-heels

“Always has a trick up her sleeve.”

“There’s more than one way to skin a cat.”

Butcher’s pet is mauled at the zoo

Say, “With Or Without You…”, to Prince-ly brat,

“but… Nothing Compares 2U.”

Mortality

The tree of life
Is embedded in grief
The rolling tears
Are a falling leaf.

Yesterday’s sorrow
Is tomorrows joy
Life’s tapestry interwoven
With death’s own ploy.

Mortality
Is essential
And impossible to avoid
But your essence and your
Spirit can never be destroyed.

Interred-Galactic

“The more you learn,

The less you know.”

Scorned the Galaxy, stern

To her Stars as they glow

Glimmer.

Star bursts, “The irony isn’t lost

On me. I’m still a bright spark.”

Not realising the cost

Of stardust culminating in dark.

Dimmer.
